Fritter Folf, a cutie with big ears I just finished up!
Kiba Wolf - recently finished commission. This guy has “3D” style eyes.
I thought this would be good to share — a reminder that a lot of us building costumes are still following another artist’s vision of an idea, even if we are incorporating our own styles.
A critter might not look “accurate” to your own personal vision of what it should look like, but that’s a big part of what stylization is all about :) Showing a couple costumes here that don’t look a whole lot like their “realistic” counterparts, but look a lot like what the customer was asking for (in my opinion anyways)!
In this image, the original concept art is on the top and the costume version is below it. Meerkat, Bat and Deer, left to right.
Hope this gives some insight on how fursuits/costumes come to be and why an artist chooses to stylize it in a way that might not be your favourite. :)
(it’s also good to remember that a lot of these cute designs have to be altered and adjusted to work in wearable mask form!)
Snow leopard commission I finished up a few weeks ago. Customer photos dressed as Dr Who :) Airbrushed spots!

A nerdy doe. Super, super cute, but I thought it was a fox until I saw the tail. The shape of the nose and the ears I think do it. If the nose had a deer shape with nostrils and the ears were a bit more elongated and curled at the base, I think it might look more like a deer.
While I appreciate the effort and thought behind this critique, I am asked to closely follow provided reference art - this means stylistically on top of just general reference! Here is the reference art for this project to clarify why this costume may not look as close to a deer as the OP may have preferred —
Please keep this in mind when sharing my work, and the work of orhers, in the future :D Thanks so much!
Cute doe costume just finished!
